PILATES: EXERCISE FOR LIFE...
principles
Pilates, named for its founder Joseph Pilates, is a system of exercises that targets the core muscles of the body. Through the six guiding principles; centering, concentration, control, precision, breath and flow, this total mind-body workout enhances ones ability to enjoy everything from everyday activities to peak performance athletics.
POWERHOUSE
What Joseph Pilates called the "Powerhouse" refers to the the abdominals, pelvic floor, lower back, hips, and gluteus muscles. These muscles work together to stabilize, but also move the body with strength, control, and precision. Pilates exercises are designed to gradually increase the difficulty and challenge for the muscles - until one reaches an optimal level of fitness.
Benefits
Pilates exercises help develop balanced strength and flexibility in the muscles, increased range of motion in the joints, and a renewed sense of mobility. With the added benefits of improving posture, increasing overall body awareness, relieving stress and physical or mental tension, Pilates will help you maintain a healthy fitness level for life.
GROUP MAT CLASSES
NOW ON THURSDAYS AT 4:30PM & SATURDAYS AT 10:00AM
We’re proud to announce the addition of new group class opportunities on a regular basis, led by our star instructor, Sharon Thacker; a Classic Pilates favorite among our clientele.
… PLUS A NEW PILATES INSTRUCTOR
Welcome Alessandra Vaccaro Sweany! Ali was first introduced to Pilates at twelve years old by her mother, Cathy, a Romana’s Pilates certified instructor. When she left Chicago for college, Ali completed her apprenticeship at True Pilates New York, then called Drago’s Gym, and in 2006 became one of the youngest people to complete the Romana’s Pilates Certification program. She has taught in a variety of settings in New York City, Wisconsin, and Chicago.
PRIVATE LESSONS
One-on-one instruction is the optimal way to experience the Pilates method. All students begin with basic exercises, and progress at their own pace through each level and apparatus. At all times, emphasis is placed on safety and strengthening of deep core muscles. By studying 2-3x per week, the body and mind establish a connection and muscle memory develops.
GROUPS
Group instruction is for students who have reached a safe level of competency. The shared experience requires more independence, and is more cost-effective. Every effort is made to connect you with partners of like skill levels and time availability. Or, bring your own partner. Usually conducted as a duet or trio.
MAT CLASSES*
Mat classes are designed to accommodate Introductory, Intermediate and Advanced levels. We limit our classes to no more than eight students so that everyone receives attention from the instructor. The mat exercises are the original movement system that Joseph Pilates designed during the early part of the last century, and require no equipment to be effective. It is a great workout to take with you on vacations and business trips.
